How passionate would you say you are in your pursuit to reach your goals, dreams or with your walk with Christ? Passionate to the point that you fully dedicate all your time and focus?
When I was writing my first book, I spent countless hours at my desk just writing away when I wasn’t at work. I wouldn’t watch TV nor did I work on any other little projects, which I’m known to juggle multiple projects at once. I gave every spare moment of my day, morning, noon and night, to read my bible and write my book. Once my book was completed I was so fired up to start a new book but then something happened. I found myself getting easily distracted with one thing after another and before I knew it, I stopped writing. It’s not that I didn’t want to write this book. I had lost my fire.
When we pursue our goals and dreams we often lose that fire we once started off with. Same goes with your pursuit to get closer to God. At first we are so fired up there is literally no stopping us. We worship, read our bible, spend any day the church doors are open in church. We take all our creative ideas and energy and apply it all towards our goals and dreams. But once we lose that fire, once we allow all those distractions to pull us away, our fire slowly starts to burn out. Before we know it, we have so many excuses as to why we haven’t reached our goal or why we no longer make time for God like we used to. Keeping that passion thriving takes some work sometimes. It’s not that we don’t want to attain our goals and dreams. It’s not that we don’t want to continue growing closer to God and growing in our spiritual journey. But when those distractions come along, it’s so easy to get pulled away.
Ask yourself what is it that got you so passionate about what you were doing? How can you go about in getting that passion back? What was it that you did that kept you so fired up? For me it has always been my time of worship. I find that when I start losing my focus in my spiritual journey, I go into worship and through the music I start to feel that fire burning inside of me. It’s my fuel. It’s in that moment between God and me that I can feel His presence and I find my strength, my motivation, His encouragement. God gives me direction and leads me when I fall off track. God will always be there to lead your way if you just seek Him. Recenter yourself and stay focused. Avoid all those distractions and spend more time with those that encourage you and push you to keep moving forward. Seek God for motivation. Don’t allow all those distractions to keep you from living a fulfilled life.
