Ever get a flat? Of course it never fails to happen on the day you are running late to work or rushing to get the kids off to school. When out of nowhere what appears?! A FLAT! Ughh! Yes it’s so frustrating but unfortunately it happens. And it never fails to be at the worse time and location ever.
I remember my husband bought me a can of Fix-a-Flat to keep in my truck. He said, “You never know. So just always keep it on hand.” A can?! Seriously?! I was boggled by the fact that this little can could somehow miraculously fix my flat in the event I got one. He was also sure to make it a point that this amazing can was a Temporary Fix. I couldn’t expect this can of Fix-a-Flat to last long. The repair would last be long enough to get me to the nearest gas station, tire shop or my destination if it was that close to me.
The other day, I was driving to the mall when that Fix-a-Flat can came to mind. Not because I saw someone stranded with a flat or I myself was getting a flat. I was thinking about a recent conversation I was having with someone. We talked about how we, as individuals, handle issues in our lives. Those unexpected events that throw a wrench into our day. Those FLATS we get in our lives. And I thought about that Fix-a-Flat can. Sometimes we grasp onto things that are a temporary fix when problems arise. We search for that one thing that makes us feel good. For some it’s an addiction they can’t break. And the moment those unexpected events occur, they run straight to the source of their addiction. For others, it’s simply a temporary quick fix that pretty much just puts a band aid on the problem.
How many times have you found yourself doing this very same thing? Using a “Fix-a-Flat” in hopes it would have a long lasting solution to your problem. What we fail to realize is that all those temporary fixes are just that, TEMPORARY. If the tire isn’t repaired properly, what happens? You get a blowout. Well imagine, if all you do is seek temporary solutions to your problems what will happen. With time, YOU will have a blow out. Temporary fixes are only short term. But fixing our eyes on God, on His strength, is a permanent solution. The best solution we can seek.
Psalm 16:8 says, “I keep my eyes always on the Lord, With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.”
This is exactly what we should be grasping for. Our Heavenly Father. He is not a temporary fix. He is permanent…long lasting. God will never abandon us and He will never stop loving us. Despite how difficult things appear, God stands firm with us. As long as we fix our eyes on God, we have His strength to withstand the “Flats” in our lives. We won’t be so easily shaken if we hold firm onto our faith in what God can do for us.
I love that verse. It couldn’t be more true. When we keep our eyes on God we will not be shaken. My dear friends, know that in your time of trouble, you don’t need a “Fix-a-Flat” as a solution. Simply reach your hand to God. Let Him wash you over with His tender grace and be your permanent solution. Let Him fill you with His comfort that reassures you that everything will be okay.
I love you and pray that whatever FLATS you have this very moment, that God is your one permanent source for repairs. I pray His peace envelopes every area of your life as you trust in Him with a whole heart.
XOXO…Ileen
