This is a time for Spring cleaning and decluttering. A time to get rid of all those things we have been holding onto that just sits in the garage. A time to brighten up the house, touch up here and there. Plant new flowers outside and get the yard all nice and gorgeous once again.
It’s a busy season in our house as we continue with the repairs that have now turned into cosmetic changes. Ohhhhh, you gotta love Spring! And decluttering is just another to-do on our list.
When I think of decluttering, it leads me to think of all those things We tend to hold onto for years. All that emotional baggage. All the unforgiveness and hurt. I think of all those times I knew I needed to clean house, emotionally, and declutter all the resentment and hurt. But for whatever reasons, I’d hold on tight, hoarding those emotions. Emotions that were keeping me from living a more fulfilled and peaceful life.
Are you holding onto some emotional baggage?
Are you in need of some Emotional Spring Cleaning?
C.S. Lewis was quoted saying, “Getting over a painful experience is much like crossing monkey bars. You have to let go at some point in order to move forward.”
WOW! Ain’t that some truth there. You can’t move forward by holding onto what happened in the past. You have to let go in order to move forward. In order to live a life of peace. Isaiah 43:18-19 says,
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?”
Here we are being told, forget about the past already and stop dwelling on it. Stop feeding into that pain. Stop and look all around you. Look at what God has been doing in your life since that time. Look at where you are today. Look at the blessings all around you. Do you not see it!?
I leave you with this one question to ponder on.
What has holding on done for you?
It’s easy to hold onto the former vs just letting go. Even if you weren’t the one at fault. But holding on doesn’t do a bit of good for you or anyone. It’s wasted time of emotional suffering and frustration.
So I encourage you my dear friend, get some Spring Cleaning and Decluttering done. Get rid of whatever it is that has been hindering you from living a fulfilled life of peace. Clean out all that emotional clutter and allow God to fill in those empty areas. Allow God to fill you with His joy and peace. Look forward to what is springing up all around you.
